Employment Type: 0.5 – 1.0 FTE
Salary: Up to $119,000 annually (including benefits), commensurate with FTE, experience, and qualifications.
About NVHA:
Nisga’a Valley Health Authority (NVHA) oversees four Health and Wellness facilities located across the Traditional Nisga’a Territory. Located 100 km Northwest of Terrace, bordering British Columbia’s rugged Pacific Northwest coast, the Nisga’a Lands are blessed with soaring mountains, dramatic lava beds, amazing hot springs, picturesque fjords, sparkling waterfalls, thriving rivers and streams, as well as an excellent, collegial health care team and superb professional working environment.
NVHA is a leading partner within the Coast Mountain Primary Care Network (PCN) and is advancing a Nisga’a Valley PCN to strengthen Occupational Therapy services within its healthcare delivery and health promotion model. We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and innovative Occupational Therapist to play a key role in delivering culturally grounded, cutting-edge Indigenous health services within the beautiful Nisga’a Territory.
Position Description Summary:
The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides comprehensive, client-centred assessment, rehabilitation, and support services to individuals and families, enhancing independence, functional ability, and overall well-being through collaborative, interdisciplinary care.
The NVHA Occupational Therapist practices from an Indigenous worldview that recognizes and respects the values, beliefs, and customs of Nisga’a individuals, families, and communities, while adhering to professional standards and best practices as set by the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (CHCPBC).
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct functional assessments (physical, cognitive, and psychosocial)
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized intervention and care plans
- Support clients in achieving independence in activities of daily living (ADLs/IADLs)
- Deliver evidence-informed rehabilitation and therapeutic interventions
- Assess, recommend, and train clients in the use of assistive devices and adaptive equipment
- Conduct home and community safety assessments and recommend modifications
- Provide education, coaching, and support to clients, families, and caregivers
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including medical staff and community partners
- Coordinate and facilitate referrals to internal and external services and resources
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with professional, organizational, and privacy standards
- Participate in program development, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
Required Education, Training, And Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy
- Registration in good standing with the CHCPBC
- 2–5 years of relevant experience (preferred)
- Experience working with First Nations communities is an asset
- Knowledge of culturally safe and trauma-informed care
- Strong clinical reasoning and assessment skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Valid BC driver’s license
- Criminal record check (including vulnerable sector) required
