PRINCE RUPERT COAST TS'MSYEN PRIMARY CARE NETWORK

The Prince Rupert Coast Ts’msyen Primary Care Network (PCN) is in coastal Northwest BC and is part of the North Coast Regional District. It encompasses the City of Prince Rupert and surrounding rural regions as defined by Prince Rupert (Local Health Area) LHA, as well as the primary communities of four Coast Ts’msyen First Nations – the Gitga’at (located in Hartley Bay), Gitxaala (Lach Klan), Metlakatla (Metlakatla), and Lax Kw’alaams (Lax Kw’alaams) First Nations.

The ‘Coast Ts’msyen’ designation of this PCN refers to four coastal First Nations (Gitxaala Nation, Metlakatla First Nation, Lax Kw’alaams Band and Gitga’at First Nation) who are part of the Ts’msyen Peoples residing in Pacific Northwest of BC. The Ts’msyen communities are geographically characterized as remote, spanning across the pacific region to the north, west and south of Prince Rupert.

The Prince Rupert Coast Ts’msyen Primary Care Network has been co-created through a collaborative effort led by the Coastal Ts’msyen First Nations (specifically the Gitga’at, Gitxaala, Metlakatla, and Lax Kw’alaams First Nations), Pacific Northwest Division of Family Practice, Northern Health, First Nations Health Authority, and Ministry of Health representatives.
