Library of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC

All BC physicians registered for independent practice are welcome to use the library of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Print and electronic resources have been carefully collected to support clinical, research, and teaching practice of family practitioners and specialists. Services including literature searches, table of content alerts, book loans, and article delivery offer rapid and meaningful information delivery to help physicians make evidence-based decisions.

Stay current on emerging issues with reading lists on pain management, race and health equity, pandemic management, and trauma-informed care (and more topics in development)

Request up-to-date literature on any clinical/research/teaching question.

Use apps for high quality medical guidance, e.g.

  • The ClinicalKey app has hundreds of full text books and journals, focusing on emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, orthopedics, pediatrics, psychiatry, and family practice. ClinicalKey is also online.
  • The DynaMed app is among the number-one-ranked point-of-care information tools.  Available online
  • BMJ Best Practice with Comorbidities: BMJ Best Practice now includes a Comorbidities tool that provides treatment guidance on patients’ acute conditions alongside pre-existing comorbidities. The content is based on the latest evidence and is presented in a way that is realistic for daily practice.   • CPS mobile app (formerly RxTx Mobile App): contains important Canadian sources of drug and therapeutics information. For a code to activate the app, go to the CPS app page.

Almost 800 ebooks and 4000 print books in various specialties are available, including family practice.  Just a few titles are these recent editions: Primary care procedures in women’s healthCurrent diagnosis & treatment: family medicineManaging the side effects of psychotropic medications, and Hale’s medications & mothers’ milk. Request any print medical book and we will try to source it for free. No mailing charges are applied to receive or return print books and, of course, ebooks are available 24/7.
